🌶️ To The Teeth: winter is coming...
Paysage d'Hiver, Sólstafir, Auriferous Flame, Yoth Iria, Ershetu, Moss Upon the Skull & more!
Welcome to the To The Teeth newsletter! Your weekly update of new heavy music. You can listen to (most) everything in the playlist on Spotify. If you like what you read, go to Patreon (receive a patch!) & Bandcamp (buy a patch!). Peppers are hot 🌶️!
Winter is not just audibly coming, it’s also showing in the slowing release schedule.
New Albums
🌶️ Paysage d’Hiver
Black/ambient, Switzerland (Kunsthall Produktionen)
FFO: Darkspace, Midnight Odyssey, Battle Dagorath
The days are getting shorter, and undeniably motherfucking cold. No snow storms where I live yet, but when I close my eyes and put on the new Paysage d’Hiver the temperature drops, toes turn blue and the gas bill rises.
🌶️ Sólstafir
Post-metal/viking/black, Iceland (Century Media Records)
Lyrical themes of Sólstafir are very relatable: “Nature, Paganism (early); Depression, Emotions (later).” Anyway, they wrap their nature obsession/depression in fantastically unique music. I wasn’t too much into their last two albums, but this one really grabbed me. It goes in every direction Sólstafir explored before, and a little bit beyond.
There’s more: Auriferous Flame (🌶️ black, Greece - an Ayloss project, from Spectral Lore, Mystras etc), Yoth Iria (black, Greece), Ershetu (prog black, France/Norway), Moss Upon the Skull (prog death, Belgium), Chaos Invocation (black, Germany), The Body (experimental everything, USA), Ploughshare (black/death, Australia), Molder (death/thrash, USA) and a remix ep from Throwing Bricks (🌶️ sludge/hardcore, The Netherlands - I usually ignore remix releases but this one has a track with Mathilde Nobel of whom I’m a fan and it’s really really cool). The rest is in the playlist!
Five new songs
🌶️ Frontierer (mathcore, Scotland)
🌶️ E-An-Na (folk, Romania)
🌶️ Honningbarna (punk rock, Norway)
🌶️ Múr (post metal, Iceland)
🌶️ Burning Witches (heavy/power, Switzerland)
The rest is in the playlist!
Not-so-heavy & next week
Not-so-heavy album of the week: nothing in particular!
I’m looking forward to next week because of: Furze, The Mosaic Window, Poppy * Thy Catafalque.
What is your favourite? What did I miss? Let me know!
Fijne herrie!
