New Albums
🌶️ Vastum (death from the USA. FFO: Incantation, Autopsy, Morbid Angel)
This is a poster year for death metal, at least for the corner of the subgenre where I like it most. It’s the darkest part of the dungeon where the worst freaks are collecting the uncooked skulls of their former bullies. Vastum is deep down in that corner, loudly counting brains, and one of those is mine. I saw someone (I forgot where) calling out the G-era Morbid Angel vibe, which is a good call. Just a little bit filthier.
There’s more: an ep from Sodom (speed/thrash from Germany), Gama Bomb (thrash from the UK), Autarkh (industrial from The Netherlands), Receiver (🌶️ epic heavy from Cyprus), Pyrolatrous (🌶️ black/death from the USA - w/ members of Anicon, Krallice), Left Cross (death from the USA), Helmet (heavy/groove/alt rock from the USA), Kaldeket (🌶️ black from the USA - ex-False), Shylmagoghnar (prog melodic death/black from The Netherlands), Hinayana (melodeath/doom from the USA), A Flourishing Scourge (🌶️ prog black/death from the USA) Sâver (sludge/post from Norway), Plague Rider (tech death/thrash from the UK), Totenmesse (black from Poland) and Gennem Tågen (black from Denmark). The rest is in the playlist!
New songs
There are new songs out from: Caligula’s Horse (🌶️ prog from Australia), Vorga (black from Germany), Full Of Hell & Nothing (powerviolence/grind from the USA & shoegaze from the USA), Rhûn (🌶️ psych black from the USA - members of Falls of Rauros), Viaje a Ixtlan (experimental from Argentina), Heavy Sentence (heavy from the UK) and Upon Stone (melodeath from the USA). The rest is in the playlist!
Non-heavy & next week
Non-heavy album of the week: Pinkpantheress - Heaven Knows (pop/r&b from the UK)
I’m looking forward to next week because of: Aeternus, King & Sadus.
What was your favourite? What did I miss? Let me know!
What are your thoughts on the Receiver album? I tend to bump against most heavy metal but I'm always looking for exceptions. For reference, I really liked Tower's album last year, so it tends to come down to the vocals for me.
