🌶️ To The Teeth: The Mosaic Window and Agriculture made my jaw drop

Welcome to the To The Teeth newsletter! Your weekly update of new heavy music. You can listen to (most) everything in the playlist on Spotify. If you like what you read, go to Patreon (receive a patch!) & Bandcamp (buy a patch!). Peppers are hot 🌶️!
🌶️ The Mosaic Window (melodic black from the USA. FFO: Svrm, Dødsdrift, Burial Hordes)
There are so many one-man black metal projects. Many are not worth your time. Some are good! But few are this good. The Mosaic Window - of which I had never heard before Bandcamp’s best of the month overview - have a unique sound (the FFO’s are a bad throw), melodic and forward thinking, with heavy death metal elements and super riffy leads. This motherfucker can play guitar! I had been hoping to stumble upon a black metal album that would trvly make my jaw drop this year. Here it is.
🌶️ Static Abyss (death/doom from the USA. FFO: Coffins, Winter, Disembowelment)
This is an Autopsy-side project, and it shows. Chris Reifert’s vocals of course, and Greg Wilkinson’s plodding cadence. It’s a little bit dialed down on the brutality, and added atmosphere and dooooom.
🌶️ None (atmospheric/depressive black from the USA. FFO: Coldworld, Austere, Totalselfhatred)
Care to cry? Let’s cry.
🌶️ Big Garden (alternative from the USA. FFO: Deftones, Alice in Chains, Smashing Pumpkins)
I love alternative rock/punk rock/ alt metal like this. It’s nostalgic, for sure, but I’m on my way to become an old geezer so that’s fine. This is quality nostalgia too, from two guys from Thou (who did amazing grunge covers, but also channeled the style on the beautiful Rhea Sylvia and Inconsolable). They combine grunge and shoegaze to create something that’s familiar and still exciting.
🌶️ Divide & Dissolve (drone/doom from Australia. FFO: Locrian, The Body, Earth)
This band makes the most beautiful intro’s. But it’s not beauty they’re after, it’s destruction. Their drones might be industrial, they’re not silent.
There’s more: Raven (NWOBHM from the UK), Coffin Mulch (death from the UK), Vengeful Spectre (folk/black from China), Grotesqueries (🌶️ death from the USA), Ebony Pendant (black from the USA), Grafvitnir (meloblack from Sweden), Lightbreaker (🌶️avantgarde black/death from the USA), Demonized (black/death from Mexico) and The Anchoret (prog from Canada). The rest is in the playlist!
Is the new Agriculture track the best black metal song of the year so far? I absolutely love everything about it. I’ve heard the album too, and it’s a complete banger.
There are new songs out from: Incantation (🌶️ death from the USA), Agriculture (🌶️ post-black from the USA), Marduk (🌶️ black from Sweden), The Armed (🌶️ prog hardcore punk from the USA - feat. Julien fucking Baker!), Cryptae (🌶️ death/doom from The Netherlands), Iotunn (prog melodeath from Denmark), Organ Dealer (🌶️ grind from the USA), Demoniac (🌶️ progressive blackened thrash from Chile), Celeste (black/sludge/post from France), Hexvessel (heavy folk from Finland), End Reign (metalcore from the USA) and Graveripper (black/thrash/speed from the USA). The rest is in the playlist!
Non-heavy & next week
Non-heavy album of the week: nothing really stood out to me this week.
I’m looking forward to next week because of: Blackbraid & Fen.
