Welcome to the To The Teeth newsletter! Your weekly update of new heavy music. You can listen to (most) everything in the playlist on Spotify. If you like what you read, go to Patreon (receive a patch!) & Bandcamp (buy a patch!). Peppers are hot 🌶️!
“I still get all the time ‘The drummer of Darkthrone’. It’s so degrading! It’s like I’m the guy that hands the baseball players their soft drinks.”
New Albums
🌶️ Weald & Woe
Castle black, USA (Fiadh Productions)
FFO: Obsequiae, Kaikkivaltias, Véhémence
Fetch me my longsword, squire. A new Weald & Woe hath been loosed upon the realm! This gang of minstrels doth slap with the might of a thousand lutes.
🌶️ Gaupa
Pysch doom/stoner, Sweden (Nuclear Blast Records)
FFO: Jex Toth, Elder, Witch Mountain, Björk
This band has been characterized as metal Björk. I couldn’t help myself and added her to the ffo’s, if only because I’m such a fan. While that’s not true at all, vocalist Emma Näslund does have the timelessness and freeform sound that her Icelandic colleague is famous for. It works fantastic.
There’s more: Sarastus (black, Finland), All Men Unto Me (avantgarde, Scotland), Beleth’s Trumpet (black, Finland), an ep from Akouphenom (black/death, Spain), Mortual (death, Costa Rica), Wytch Hazel (hard rock/heavy, UK), Warkings (power, Germany/Austria/Switzerland) and an ep from Leonov (doomgaze/post, Norway). The rest is in the playlist!
Three new songs
🌶️🍉 Znous (groove/metalcore, Tunesia - featuring the hopeless prayer call from a imam in a mosque in Gaza, where more than 55.000 people were killed, over 40.000 people are displaced, where civilians at food distribution points and refugee camps are targeted by an army of occupation and, while we speak, a genocide is taking place. Just fucking saying)
🌶️ Frayle (doom/post, USA)
🌶️ Innumerable Forms (death/doom, USA)
The rest is in the playlist!
Not-so-heavy & next week
