To The Teeth: Paradise Lost, Triptykon, Okkultokrati, Exhumed, Inter Arma
New albums
My favourites this week
I wasn't a big fan of Paradise Lost's (doom/death/gothic from the UK) comeback to doom/death. I know, I'm probably the only one. But their last two records were just a bit.. boring, to me - apart from Beneath Broken Earth, which is a perfect song. This new record exceeds what I was hoping for: the perfect blend of all their forms. It's heavy, gothic infused doom metal that's romantic and crushing and I love it.
The performance of Triptykon with the Metropole Orkest (gothic/doom/death from Switzerland) at Roadburn 2019 was something special. I had seen the Metropole Orkest countless times with jazz artists, but although they've played with metal bands before (this clip with a hilariously cocky Gorefest is a classic, all in Dutch though), I felt they really blended together here, as the piece was written this way - not matched together. This is totally unique, there's really nothing like it. I'm very happy this got a release.
