If you like what you read and want help keep this in the air: please head over to Patreon or to my compilation: The Taste of Teeth (also for some merch). Peppers are hot 🌶️!

💿 It’s Bandcamp friday! Get some good stuff! You can get the TTT compilation, a patch or a bunch of stickers with 10% off with code gingivitis right here.

New albums

🌶️ Palace of Worms (death/doom from the USA. FFO: Cobalt, Thantifaxath, early Katatonia, slow Solefald)

It’s so hard to own a classic death/doom sound and sound fresh at the same time, but Palace of Worms pull it off. It’s progressive and adventurous with great urgency, full of memorable leads and riffs, and a great vocal delivery. A dynamic and unique listen. It’s their very last album - a great, great swansong.

🌶️ Memoriam (death from the UK. FFO: Bolt Thrower, Asphyx,

No surprises come with this new Memoriam effort. But if you like old school death metal, it doesn’t get much more comfortable a listen than this. Former Bolt Thrower vocalist Karl Willetts sounds as convincing as ever, helped by a band with former Benediction bassist Frank Healy and his Benediction colleague Scott Fairfax on guitar. Death metal royalty at work.

🌶️ Crawl (blackened doom from the USA)

So, this is one guy. Yes you hear that a lot, no big deal. But this guy does everything you hear all at once. Drums, bass, vocals, samples: it’s all simultaneously recorded. And it sounds like hell - in a bad way, but also in a very good way. Like the label wrote: “Crawl has defined what it truly means to be alone.”

🌶️ Fvnerals (doom/post from Germany)

What would Chelsea Wolfe sound like if she was really depressed? I mean, more than usual. A really bad day. Her rabbit died, rent increased, favourite recordstore closed…

🌶️ Carathis (black from Austria. FFO: Old Nick, Spider God, Gudsforladt)

This new Carathis ep is as weird and amazing as most of frontman’s Erech Leleth work (thanks for the lead Jon R.!), like Ancient Mastery and Bergfried. He has a feeling for melody you don’t hear a lot, and a freedom of composition that seals the deal for me.

There’s more: Year Of The Knife (metallic hardcore from the USA), Falaise (atmospheric post-black from Italy), WuW (avantgarde doom from France), Scáth Na Déithe (black/death from Ireland), a split from Starcave Nebula & Thrä (raw black from Canada & atmospheric/ambient black from the USA), Mithridatum (tech black/death from the USA), Velnias (blackened folk/doom from the USA), Soulmass (death/doom from the USA) and Sanguisugabogg (death from the USA).

New singles

There are new songs out from: Dying Fetus (death/grind from the USA), Spirit Possession (🌶️ black from the USA), Hyperdontia (🌶️ death from Denmark/Turkey), Wake (black/death/grind from Canada), Runemagick (death/doom from Sweden), Predatory Void (🌶️ post doom from Belgium/Russia - w/ members of Cross Bringer, Amenra, Oathbreaker), Fange (industrial sludge/death from France), Astriferous (🌶️ death from Costa Rica), Venomous Concept (hardcore punk from the USA - w/ members of Brutal Truth, Napalm Death), Big|Brave (🌶️ post everything from Canada), Megaton Sword (epic heavy from Switzerland), Haunt (heavy from the USA), Blitzar IV (🌶️ atmoblack from Mexico - VCH-alert) PLUS: a batch of I, Voidhanger tracks (which came out just after I had sent last newsletter): Yaaroth (doom/prog from the USA), At The Altar of the Horned God (🌶️ atmoblack/ritual ambient from Spain - w/ member of Mystagos) & Skrying Mirror (black/death/industrial from the USA/Finland - /w members of Ævangelist). The rest is in the playlist!

Non-metal & next week

Non-metal album of the week: Raye (r&b from the UK)

I’m looking forward to next week because of: In Flames, Frozen Dawn & Delain.

Let me know what you think! What was your favourite? Do you like the new newsletter? Should I change anything? What did I miss?
