🌶️ To The Teeth: one of the best metal albums of the year & thirty old, cold and beautiful seconds
One new album you need to hear this week
🌶️ Gojira - Fortitude (progressive/groove/tech death from France)
I love Fortitude. I've listened to a hundred times because I did an interview with Joe Duplantier (read here, in Dutch) and I think it's their most balanced, most attractive and most fun record to date, and it has totally reinvigorated my love for that band. Yes - it's absolutely accessible, but don't mistake that for watered down. Fortitude is accessible because its so well written. Air to breathe, melodies to hook on to for days. Plus: Duplantier turned out to be a great guy with well thought out opinions on the world (namely: it's going to shit). One of the albums of the year for me, for sure.
There's more: Vreid (melodic black from Norway), Domkraft (doom/stoner from Sweden), Evile (thrash from the UK), Osiris (melodic black from Egypt), Ungfell (black from Switzerland), Plasmodium (psych black/death from Australia), Stone Healer (prog black from the USA), Fyrnask (black from Germany) and Steve Von Till himself (acoustic folk from the USA).
New singles
There are new tracks, singles, songs and advance tracks out from: At The Gates (🌶️ melodeath from Sweden), Aduanten (🌶️ death/black from the USA), Sojourner (epic/atmospheric black from New Zealand/Sweden), Red Fang (stoner/rock from the USA), Charlotte Wessels (🌶️ rock/pop from the Netherlands - ex-Delain), Esoctrilihum (🌶️ avantgarde black from France), Thy Catafalque (avantgarde from Hungary), Impure Wilhelmina (post from Switzerland), Crippled Black Phoenix (experimental post rock from the UK), Dordeduh (atmospheric folk/black from Romania), Borgne (industrial black from Switzerland), Code (prog black/post from the UK), Vulture (speed/thrash from Germany), Fractal Universe (prog/tech death from France), Gåte (scandi folk from Norway - an acoustic version of an older song), a live track from Pig Destroyer (grind from the USA), and thirty highly edited but beautiful seconds off of the new Darkthrone (🌶️ old/cold from Norway).
Next week
Non-metal album of the week: Luwten - Draft (electronic/indie pop from the Netherlands)
I’m looking forward to next week because of: Aduanten, Grey Aura & Kataan.
PS: I'm away all of next week, so chances are the playlist won't be updated on friday, plus I don't expect to have time to make a newsletter
Have a great weekend! - Peter
