New Albums
🌶️ Miserere Luminis (atmospheric black from Canada. FFO: Grís, Aquilus, Entheos)
There is beauty in sadness, and the forest dwellers of Quebec know this. They know how to deepen both the beauty and sadness like no others, it seems. Now with new project Miserere Luminis, which captures a bit of the magic of the brilliant Gris. That makes sense: they are the same members, together with a member of Sombres Forêts. And it’s not just atmosphere, there’s so much to discover within this music. It’s like progressive depressive, if that didn’t sound so ridiculous. But you get the drift.
🌶️ Tsjuder (black from Norway. FFO: Marduk, Immortal, Taake)
No frills, no trends, no fun, no more than two band members, no anything. Just Norwegian black metal.
There’s more: Xasthur (depressive black/happy folk from the USA), Jag Panzer (heavy/power from the USA), Nocturnal Breed (thrash/black from Norway), Tomb (black/death from Malaysia), Passéisme (🌶️ melodic black from Russia), Vulture Industries (avantgarde/prog from Norway), Luminous Veil (black from the USA), Snorlax (black/death from Australia), High Priest (stoner/doom from the USA), Infernal Curse (🌶️ black/death from Argentina) and a live album from Power Trip (🌶️ thrash/crossover from the USA), which is technically a re-release and I usually ignore those. But this album is so fucking good. Riley Gale forever. The rest is in the playlist!
New songs
There are new songs out from: Baroness (🌶️ prog sludge from the USA), Imperial Crystalline Entombment (🌶️ fucking/ice from the USA), Living Gate (🌶️ death from Belgium/USA - w/ members of Yob, Oathbreaker, ex-Amenra), Godthrymm (epic doom from the UK), Doro (heavy from Germany), Alkaloid (🌶️ prog death from Germany), Blackbriar (symphonic from The Netherlands), Static Abyss (🌶️ death/’doom from the USA - w/ members of Autopsy) and Haken (prog from the UK). The rest is in the playlist!
Non-heavy & next week
Non-heavy album of the week: Pat Metheny (jazz/fusion from the USA)
I’m looking forward to next week because of: None (the band, not that there is nothing to look forward to).
What was your favourite? What did I miss? Let me know!
For the weirdos, highly recommend The Anchoret’s new album. Not as heavy as last week’s Sarmat but it’s got plenty of synth and jazz stuff going on.
