🌶️ To The Teeth: Locrian experiments with structure
Plus: Witch Vomit, Belore, Attic, Austere, Aquilus, Dool, Candy, Rezn, Crypt Sermon & much more!
Welcome to the To The Teeth newsletter! Your weekly update of new heavy music. You can listen to (most) everything in the playlist on Spotify. If you like what you read, go to Patreon (receive a patch!) & Bandcamp (buy a patch!). Peppers are hot 🌶️!
New Albums
🌶️ Locrian
Experimental/post, USA (Profound Lore)
FFO: Wreck and Reference, Nadja, Mamaleek
Well this is a surprise. I kind of lost track of Locrian after Infinite Dissolution, which was a more drone-ish affair if I remember well. This seems to be much more on the post-metal side and also got a little more structured. I liked drony Locrian, I also like posty Locrian.
🌶️ Witch Vomit
Death, USA (20 Buck Spin)
FFO: Incantation, Cerebral Rot, ehmm Dissection?
A death metal machine going melodic - I know a lot of hard headed death metal lifers will shake their head (furiously and in circular motion) but I’m interested.
🌶️ Belore
Epic black, France (Northern Silence Productions)
FFO: Summoning, Caladan Brood, Dwarrowdelf
I’m a nerd. Belore are nerds. We find eachother in this nerdy and fantastic music.
There’s more: Austere (depressive black, Australia), Furze (black/doom, Norway), an ep from Midnight Odyssey (ambient black, Australia), Attic (heavy, Germany), Iron Monkey (sludge/doom, UK), Gravkväde (black/funeral doom, Sweden), Diabolic Oath (black/death, USA), Acid Mammoth (doom/stoner, Greece), Aristarchos (black, UK), Herxheim (black/death, USA - member of Howls of Ebb), Hour of Penance (tech death, Italy) and Korpiklaani (Folk, Finland). The rest is in the playlist!
Eight new songs
🌶️ Aquilus (black/folk/neoclassical, Australia)
🌶️ Candy (hardcore, USA)
🌶️ Akhlys (black, USA)
🌶️ Rezn (psych doom/stoner, USA)
🌶️ Atvm (prog death, UK)
🌶️ Dool (psych/doom, The Netherlands)
🌶️ Crypt Sermon (epic doom, USA)
🌶️ Wheel (prog, Finland)
The rest is in the playlist!
Not-so-heavy & next week
Not-so-heavy album of the week: haven’t heard anything particularly impressive today!
I’m looking forward to next week because of: Necrot, Sarcasm & Tyr.
What is your favourite? What did I miss? Let me know!
Really good death metal split that comes out on April 26 (technically) but premiered on Decibel on Monday: https://www.decibelmagazine.com/2024/04/08/full-split-stream-draghkar-helcaraxe-a-glorious-call-in-the-terrible-darkness/
Oh it got partially deleted... I said that I liked the songs of the week better the old way, it was useful (but at least 8 is better than 5!)
