New Albums
🌶️ Thantifaxath (avantgarde black from Canada. FFO: Dodecahedron, Deathspell Omega,
Taking avantgarde to a new level with every release, Thantifaxath have always looked forward. Along they way the never lost their signature sound: twisted and sometimes difficult to digest, discomforting and frankly just a bit scary… but compelling for who is willing to let go of a few natural laws and let Thantifaxath pull you under.
(Not available on Spotify in my region, but for some it’s up. Do check it out on Bandcamp though!)
🌶️ Pupil Slicer (mathcore from the UK. FFO: Heriot, Ithaca, Rolo Tomassi)
Knotty and aggressive, super energetic, yet so melodic and fun. It’s a little bit like nu metal for Generation Z, evolved into something clever, thoughtful and heartfelt. That’s not to say this band is easy: they’ll eat you up and spit you out.
🌶️ Inhuman Condition (death/thrash from the USA)
When that second track kicked in, guitars revving like a monster truck, I couldn’t stop grinning. There are three new songs on this new ep, plus a Blue Oyster Cult cover and a handful of live tracks. This shouldn’t be out, but it’s on Spotify so let’s fuck’n go.
There’s more: Necrofier (melodic black from the USA), an ep from Omnium Gatherum (melodeath from Finland), Jute Gyte (experimental black/ambient from the USA), Victory Over the Sun (post-black from the USA - missed this earlier), Bongzilla (botany/herbalism from the USA), Bodydrinkers (death/black from Ireland), Bríi (electronic/ambient/black from Brazil - same guy as Kaatayra), a live album from Corpsessed (death from Finland), Wytch Hazel (hardrock/heavy from the UK), the first solo album of Einar Solberg (prog from Norway - member of Leprous/Ihsahn) and a soundtrack from Myrkur (atmoblack/folk from Denmark). The rest is in the playlist!
Plus: Candlelight has released the Abbey Road Opeth Remasters: Orchid, Morningrise and My Arms Your Hearse. Not new, but they kinda sound like new.
New songs
There are new songs out from: Lacuna Coil (🌶️ gothic from Italy), Agriculture (post-black from the USA), Soen (🌶️ prog from Sweden), KEN Mode (noise from Canada), Code Orange (hardcore punk from the USA), Crypta (death from Brazil), The Body (experimental sludge/doom from the USA), Trhä (atmoblack/ambient from the USA), Big Garden (alt rock/punkrock/grunge from the USA - members of Thou), Diabolical Fullmoon (black from Poland), Geld (hardcore punk from Australia), Ringworm (metalcore/thrash from the USA), Onheil (🌶️ blackened heavy/thrash from The Netherlands) and Ascendency (🌶️ death/black from Denmark - w/ members of Hyperdontia, Taphos, Phrenelith etc). The rest is in the playlist!
Non-heavy & next week
Non-heavy album of the week: Foo Fighters (alternative rock from the USA)
I have gone back and forth on putting the new Foo Fighters down here, or right on top of the newsletter. It *is* heavy after all, but although in that respect it hardly fits the non-heavy category, it also didn’t feel at place up there. You wouldn’t need me to tell you there’s a new FF record right? So, well, here we are. It’s an incredibly beautiful album by the way, here’s my five star review (in Dutch).
My plan b for this week, for what it’s worth, would be Ben Folds.
I’m looking forward to next week because of: Geld, Godflesh & Torture Rack.
What was your favourite? What did I miss? Let me know!
Wat een prachtige review van de nieuwe Foo Fighters!
