New Albums
🌶️ God Dethroned
Blackened death, The Netherlands (Reigning Phoenix)
FFO: Behemoth, Necrophobic, Hypocrisy
Around since 1991, and still there are monotheists in The Netherlands! So, time for a new album from Henri Sattler and co - with a relatively new band around him. They sound like vintage God Dethroned anyway: vicious and angry like hell.
🌶️ Officium Triste
Doom/death, The Netherlands (Transcending Obscurity)
FFO: My Dying Bride, Celestial Season, Shape of Despair
These guys are from my town, and I’ve never seen them live! I really have to fix that soon. This album is very heavy and very melodic, exactly what you want from them.
🌶️ 40 Watt Sun
Folk/alternative/doom, UK (Cappio Records)
FFO: Warning, Pallbearer, Opeth’s Damnation
I almost put this in the non-heavy section, but in the end this is still the same Patrick Walker who made Watching From a Distance and the heart of that crushingly heavy doom is also in his solo project. His music may not have the same surface heaviness, but the impact it has is still incredible.
🌶️ Kaikkivaltias & Silent Millenia
Meloblack/symphonic black, Finland (self released)
FFO: Weald & Woe, Mythras, Stormkeep, Limbonic Art
Kaikkivaltias was a recent awesome discovery in the roster of connaisseur vinyl label Ixiol. I absolutely love Astu. They’re back with a split with the to me unknown Silent Millenia, symphonic black metallers. Sounds very cool on first listen.
There’s more: Wolfheart (melodeath, Finland), Pyrrhon (🌶️ experimental death, USA), Sanctuarium (death, Spain), Together To The Stars (post-black, Sweden), Aluk Todolo (occult rock, France), Eldamar (atmoblack, Norway), A Swarm of the Sun (post-metal, Sweden), Black Sites (heavy/prog, USA) an ep from Godthrymm (🌶️ epic doom, UK), Castle (heavy/doom, USA), Vestige (prog/post-hardcore, France) and Circle of Ourborus (🌶️ experimental black, Finland). The rest is in the playlist!
Nine new songs
🌶️ Opeth (prog death, Sweden)
🌶️ Massacre (death, USA)
🌶️ Deceased (death/thrash, USA)
🌶️ Living Gate (death, Belgium/USA)
🌶️ Master Boot Record (industrial/synthwave/chiptune, Italy)
🌶️ Adorior (death/black, UK)
🌶️ Ataraxie (funeral doom/death, France)
🌶️ Undeath (death, USA)
🌶️ Yoth Iria (black, Greece)
The rest is in the playlist!
Not-so-heavy & next week
Not-so-heavy album of the week: Max Richter (modern classical/ambient, Germany)
I’m looking forward to next week because of: Winterfylleth, Trelldom, Father Befouled & Crobot.
What is your favourite? What did I miss? Let me know!
Thanks for the list! I'm so behind on new stuff but am stoked to check out that Kaikkivaltias & Silent Millenia project. Also looking forward to the new God is an Astronaut, though idk if that falls into post-metal or if it's pure post rock.
As for non-metal, I'm so hyped for the new Masayoshi Fujita. Might be up your alley if you're looking for something more reserved/classical/ambient.
