Last newsletter before my vacation. What a good release week to go out with! This is an extra stuffed, filled to the brim edition and after this I’ll be gone for a few weeks. I will update the playlist somewhere mid to late august with a huge, badass update that’ll have you covered deep into autumn. Cya!
New Albums
🌶️ Agriculture (black from the USA. FFO: Bosse-de-Nage, Vattnet Viskar, Deafheaven)
Man, this band. I loved last years ep, but I didn’t expect them to grow this steep and fast. So intense, so melodic, so heartfelt - it’s a shot of frenetic black metal right to the heart. Mine, at least. This album is everything that fans have been waiting for since 2015's All Fours, New Bermuda, and Settler. Yes, there’s the quirky name, but think about industrialized farming: a major contributor to climate change, deforestation, water pollution, water scarcity ánd biodiversity loss.
🌶️ Outer Heaven (death/hardcore from the USA. FFO: Incantation, Tomb Mold, Suffocation)
Beefy, thick, riffy, taking no prisoners death metal with a few hardcore punches. Their secret? That singer. Austin Haines does nothing new, but he does everything right. Second secret: that incredible cover. I need the longsleeve.
(If you like this but want more Steve Tucker, check out Ageless Summoning below)
🌶️ Mizmor (black/drone/doom from the USA. FFO: Hell, Bell Witch, Inter Arma)
Not entirely my cup of tea, even though it should be... Recognize that feeling? Anyway, I am going to dive into this more thoroughly when the leaves start falling and I’m sure I’ll come around - can’t and won’t deny the quality here!
🌶️ Fugitive (thrash/crossover from the USA. FFO: Power Trip, Obituary, Enforced)
Just a short two track burst, but like last years debut ep I’m siked. The Blake Ibanez (Power Trip) led project with members of Skourge, Impalers and Creeping Death is not quite Power Trip, but it’ll cater to fans (me) for sure. The second song here is just plain dangerous. STANDOFF!
🌶️ Astral Tomb (death from the USA. FFO: Blood Incantation, Timeghoul, Demilich)
I missed this two weeks ago and I’m totally making up for it here. Such a cool band! They’re riffing on the space death of Timeghoul, but really making it their own. They get a little bit… weirder. Well, a lot. And still manage to make it sound like a derailed train ploughing through a saturday afternoon high street. Great combination.
🌶️ Gateway (death/doom from Belgium. FFO: Hooded Menace, Coffins, Spectral Voice)
Heavy riffs. Heavy drums. Heavy vocals. Heavy fucking everything.
🌶️ Rannoch (prog death from the UK. FFO: Meshuggah, Gojira, heavy Opeth)
What if Meshuggah played Opeth and Gojira songs? It might sound a bit like Rannoch. It’s a sound you not often hear as well done as on their new album. Drums especially sound insane here - that’s Dan Presland (Ne Obliviscaris).
There’s more: Ageless Summoning (🌶️ death from the UK), Inhuman Condition (🌶️ death/thrash from the USA), Stangarigel (black from Slovakia - w/ member of Malokarpatan), Disimperium (black/death/grind from the USA - w/ member of Ascended Dead), Black Wound (death/doom from Sweden), Cadaver (black/death/thrash from Norway), Kommodus (raw black from Australia), Cultic (death/doom from the USA), Monolord (stoner/doom from Sweden), Mordran (depressive/raw black/dark ambient from Sweden), Beenkerver (black from The Netherlands - ex-Heidevolk, ex-Nodfyr), Bloodletter (thrash from the USA), a live album from Akercocke (prog black/death from the UK), a split from Sadness & Kenopsia (depressive/post-black from the USA and I don’t know Kenopsia) and no less than three new ep’s from Trhä (🌶️ atmoblack from the USA). The rest is in the playlist!
New songs
There are new songs out from: Uada (meloblack from the USA), Horrendous (🌶️ prog death from the USA), Blut Aus Nord (🌶️ avantgarde atmoblack from France), Moonlight Sorcery (🌶️ melodic black from Finland), The Armed (post hardcore/hardcore punk from the USA), Fabricant (🌶️ death from the USA - w/ members of Mefitis), An Autumn For Crippled Children (post-black from The Netherlands), Primal Fear (🌶️ speed/power from Germany), Revenant Marquis (🌶️ raw black/ambient from the UK), Myth of I (instrumental prog from the USA), Knife (blackened speed/punk from Germany), Deadly Carnage (🌶️ prog/post-black from Italy), Ifernach (black from Canada) and Imperial Triumphant (avantgarde black/death from the USA) covered Dizzy Gillespie. The rest is in the playlist!
Non-heavy & next week
Non-heavy album of the week: Nothing in particular!
I’m looking forward to next week because of: Mutoid Man & Organ Dealer.
What was your favourite? What did I miss? Let me know!

Goeie vakantie!
