New Albums
🌶️ Horrendous (prog death from the USA. FFO: (late) Death, Morbus Chron/Sweven, Atheist)
This band is unstoppable and this album is very close to a masterpiece. Ever since The Chills they keep surprising me with new ways to keep death metal future ready. This new one is another big step forward, with a more varied vocal approach ánd a a whole new range of musical ideas. This is what the kids would call a banger.
🌶️ Sanguine Glacialis (melodic death/black/gothic/everything from Canada)
What the hell. When this band sat down to discuss the direction the band should take, they must’ve been a) high and b) very very accomodating to each and every idea. There’s a basis of melodeath, which is marinated in a thick gothic sauce and spiced up with black metal elements, and then there are jazzy and latin-ish passages, sometimes all at the same time. Yes, it sounds like this album is going to be an unbearable hot mess. But no, this is: fucking awesome.
There’s more: Spirit Adrift (🌶️ heavy from the USA), Godthrymm (epic doom from the UK), Urfaust (black from The Netherlands), Mycorrhizae (🌶️ black from the USA), Ringworm (hardcore/thrash from the USA), Oxx (🌶️ math/punkrock from Denmark), Gonemage (experimental post-black/chiptune from the USA), John Coffey (punkrock/metalcore from The Netherlands), Dripping Decay (death from the USA), The Circle (symphonic black from Germany), Invultation (black/death from the USA), Déhà (black-ish from Belgium), Violet Cold (experimental post-black from Azerbaijan), Nott (death/doom from the USA), Stargazer (avantgarde black/death from Australia) and another week, anothe.. no wait, two new albums from Trhä (2 - atmoblack from the USA). The rest is in the playlist!
New songs
There are new songs out from: Wolves In The Throne Room (🌶️ atmoblack from the USA), Baroness (🌶️ prog sludge from the USA), VHS (death/thrash/grind from Canada), Filth Is Eternal (🌶️ hardcore punk from the USA), Ruin Lust (black/death from the USA), Hexvessel (🌶️ psych folk from Finland), Ministry (industrial from the USA), Primordial (folk/black from Ireland), Within Temptation (symphonic/alternative from The Netherlands), Malokarpatan (🌶️ black/heavy from Slovakia), Svalbard (post-hardcore from the UK), The Keening (doom from the USA - w Rebecca Vernon of SubRosa), Crisix (thrash from Spain), Bergfried (folk rock from Austria), Tesseract (prog from the UK), Iskandr (folk/black from The Netherlands) and Brujeria (🌶️ death/grind from Mexico). The rest is in the playlist!

🌶️ To The Teeth: Horrendous' prog-death metal masterpiece and the yearly extreme holiday update!
Glad you're back, I feel a void in my weird-metal-loving soul when there's no newsletter.
Sanguine Glacialis is WILD. Like, it's definitely gothy melodeath with the adventurous spirit of Deconstruction-era Devin Townsend and yet it somehow feels cohesive???
Also Horrendous is a strong AOTY contender. And Damian Herring might be the best producer/engineer in metal right now.
So excited to finally listen to new Horrendous. That band never misses.
