🌶️ To The Teeth: heavy music for Ukraine 💔, plus Hath, Midnight, Sabaton, Ghost, Terzij de Horde & Meshuggah
Ukraine 💔
Like probably most of you, I've been shocked by the horrible invasion of Ukraine by Putin last week. We're here for the heavy music, so to raise awareness to bands from and in the warzone, this newsletter is a little bit different than usual. Of course most of the newest heavy music of this week is in the playlist, as always. It's also Bandcamp Friday, so if you want to support anybody for whatever reason, today is a good day.
If you want to do something more direct, you can always start with supporting the big NGO's: Doctors Without Borders, the Red Cross, Amnesty International, Libereco the UNHCR, UN Crisis Relief, Voices of Children, or your local organizations.
There are many Ukranian bands sharing information, donation possibilities and other updates from the ground, like 1914 (Lviv, who have just cancelled their Europe tour), Stoned Jesus (Kyiv), White Ward (Odessa), Ignea (Kyiv), Khors (Kharkiv) and Motanka (Loetsk), and Këkht Aräkh (now in Warsaw, Poland, who's family is still in Ukraine).
Songs and releases I want to point out: Schattenfall (atmoblack from Germany - in support of their homeland Ukraine ), Jinjer (not a song but a message from Kyiv, Ukraine; check out their bandcamp for further support), Kanonenfieber (melodic death from Germany - raising funds for aid in Ukraine), Somali Yacht Club (psych/space rock from Lviv, Ukraine), 1914 (death/doom from Lviv, Ukraine - a song released in january), Coldworld (black from Germany) made a song in dedication of the people of Ukraine, and a big sampler from House of Mythology (not very heavy but with a few tracks from Ulver, among others, raising funds for Ukraine). And if you have missed these albums last week, do check 'm out because they're great and they deserve all support: Svrm (black from Kharkiv, Ukraine), Pušča (post-black/post-hardcore from Lviv, Ukraine - this is a new ep as a fundraiser for the Ukrainian forces, do check out the ep they released earlier this month too), Ezkaton (atmospheric black from Rive, Ukraine), Slowerpain (sludge from Lutsk, Ukraine).
New albums
There are new albums out from: Hath (🌶️ prog blackened death from the USA), Midnight (black/speed from the USA), Sabaton (power from Sweden), Unru (black/crust from Germany), Godless Truth (tech death from Czechia), Sanhedrin (heavy from the USA), Sylvaine (post/doom from Norway), Kostnatění (🌶️ black/folk from the USA), Kuolemanlaakso (death/doom from Finland), Crowbar (sludge from the USA), Beyond the Grasp of Light (black from the USA) and Vio-Lence (thrash from the USA).
New singles
There are new songs out from: Terzij de Horde (🌶️ black from the Netherlands - Tartarus Records donates a big portion of their profits today to medical supplies for Ukraine), Ghost (🌶️ heavy/rock from Sweden ), Watain (black from Sweden), Dark Funeral (black from Sweden), Crypta (death from Brazil/The Netherlands), Katharos (🌶️ symphonic black from Sweden), Septicflesh (atmospheric/symphonic death from Greece), Perdition Temple (black/death from the USA), and a short teaser for new Haunter (black/death from the USA - very graphic video, just listen).
Next week
Non-metal album of the week: Nilüfer Yanya - Painless
I’m looking forward to next week because of: Ghost, E-L-R, Konvent and Messa.
One more thing: this newsletter celebrated it's second year of existence this week! Thank you very much for the support.
Have a great weekend people, stay safe - especially our friends in Ukraine! - Peter
