“We’re a restaurant – the wholesome, family restaurant of Darkthrone. The menu is pretty much always the same, but there’s this guy called Fenriz who always has to twist and turn things, while Nocturno Culto sticks to the steady menu. This restaurant, if it were completely changed, maybe no one would come.”
New Albums
🌶️ MSPaint
Hardcore synthpunk, USA (Convulse Records)
FFO: Militarie Gun, Gouge Away, Drug Church
You want something unique in your hardcore punk? Let’s ditch the guitars. MSPaint is one of the more exciting bands I’ve heard lately. They’ve made another step into more depth within their sound on this new release. I’ve went out of my way to get Post-American on vinyl from the US, I might have to do the same for this ep.
🌶️ Chepang
Grindcore, Nepal/USA (Relapse Records)
FFO: Brutal Truth, Wormrot, Nasum
Nine songs, 17 minutes. You know the genre just by checking those numbers out. This Nepalese band, living in New York, knows how to grind and I love how they move in and out of the genre on this new thing - even if it’s just a little over a quarter of an hour. In fact: that makes it all the more impressive.
🌶️ Voice of Baceprot
Groove/alternative, Indonesia (Dark Anthem Records)
FFO: Massive Scar Era, Znous, Alien Weaponry
I have a soft spot for Voice of Baceprot. They’re not just from a conservative background: they’re from a conservative city in a conservative part of a conservative country, Garut, West-Java, Indonesia. Musically they wear their influences maybe a little too visibly on their sleeves, but they still bring something fresh and exciting, and their voices deserve it to be heard.
There’s more: Midnight (black/speed, USA), Ossuary (death, USA), Myth of I (instrumental prog, USA), Sexmag (death/thrash, Poland), Witchcraft (doom/psych, Sweden), …And Oceans (🌶️ black/industrial, Finland), Balmog (🌶️ black, Spain), The Howling Void (symphonic/funeral doom, USA), Psudoku (grind/psych, Norway) & Unmerciful (brutal death, USA). The rest is in the playlist!
Seven new songs
🌶️ Gruesome (prog death, USA)
🌶️ Turnstile (hardcore punk, USA)
🌶️ Igorrr (yes/no, France - someone sent me a message and told me I’d surely understand this when I watched the video. Well dude I’m not sure if it’s not just more confusing, but goddamnit it’s impressive. And I love the socks)
🌶️ Blackbraid (atmoblack, USA)
🌶️ Entrails (death, Sweden)
🌶️ Atomic Witch (thrash/death, USA)
🌶️ For I Am King (metalcore, The Netherlands)
The rest is in the playlist!
