To The Teeth: Forgotten Tombs, Göden, ...And Oceans, Winterfylleth, Sojourner
New albums
My favourites this week
Spring is here, and warm weather sometimes changes how I listen to music. I can't really explain why Forgotten Tomb (gothic/black/doom from Italy) works so well right now then. Maybe the titel of their record Springtime Depression (2003) explains the duality I experience with their music.
Like a rumble from the past, Göden (death/doom from the USA) comes to life. Winter-mastermind Stephen Flam (here known as Spacewinds - cool) wasn't done after the one record he made with New York doom legends Winter in the nineties, and has poured his plodding riffs into this new, exciting project, with amazing vocals from Vas Kallas.
It's not Cirith Ungol-long, but ...And Oceans (symphonic black from Finland) have been away for 18 years and that's long. It's impressive the new record is as fresh and inspired as it is. You can hear the - sometimes experimental - influences of their past but the sound has matured. It's a great listen.
