🌶️ To The Teeth: Death metal to blow your mind with, Ukrainian dynamism and riffs (really)
Lunar Chamber, Ignea, Enforced, Agriculture, Runemagick, Chrome Waves, Defiled & much more!
Welcome to the To The Teeth newsletter! Your weekly update of new heavy music. You can listen to almost everything in the playlist on Spotify. If you like what you read: Patreon (get a patch!) or Bandcamp (buy a patch!). Peppers are hot 🌶️!
I went to Metallica and had to write about it, which left me with little time to write the newsletter. If I have missed something good, please let me know!
🌶️ Lunar Chamber (progressive death/doom from the USA. FFO: Lykathea Aflame, VoidCeremony, Gorguts)
There are enough hints. Check out that psychy, hard to pin down artwork, the sick logo, the label, the name of the album, the song lengths… this is death metal that’ll blow your mind. Members are also in Tómarúm.
🌶️ Enforced (thrash/crossover from the USA. FFO: Power Trip, Slayer, High Command)
You like riffs? Go listen to this!
🌶️ Runemagick (death/doom from Sweden. FFO: Hooded Menace, Spectral Voice, Krypts)
Slow ánd punchy. Runemagick isn’t alone in this neck of the woods, but they’re one of my favourites. I haven’t gotten around to listen to this album very well yet, but the singles were good to great.
🌶️ Ignea (symphonic/prog from Ukraine 🌻. FFO: Orphaned Land, Amorphis, Epica)
Yeah hard to give ‘FFO’s’ for this one. While the clean vocal parts give a sympho-vibe, their overal melodicism reminds me more of Amorphis and the folky stuff makes it right for people who like Orphaned Land. Anyway, it’s all quite unique and very dynamic if anything.
There’s more: Chrome Waves (post-black from the USA), Defiled (death from Japan), Austere (depressive black from Australia), a 2-track ep from 200 Stab Wounds (death from the USA), Fires in the Distance (melodic doom/death from the USA), Spotlights (post/shoegaze from the USA), Wallowing (blackened sludge/doom/noise from the UK), Valgrind (death from Italy), a live album from Solar Temple (🌶️ atmospheric/psych black from The Netherlands), and a live album from Cradle of Filth (symphonic/gothic from the UK). The rest is in the playlist!
There are new songs out from: Agriculture (🌶️ post-black from the USA), Terminal Nation (death/hardcore from the USA), Blackbriar (symphonic from The Netherlands), Xasthur (depressive black/acoustic from the USA) and Sarvekas (black from Finland). The rest is in the playlist!
Non-heavy & next week
Non-heavy album of the week: Haven’t heard anything but Metallica and above stuff, I’m afraid.
I’m looking forward to next week because of: Enforcer, Jerome’s Dream & Unearth.
What was your favourite? What did I miss? Let me know!
