🌶️ To The Teeth: Darkthrone, Mayhem, Red Fang, King Woman, Code & Boss Keloid
five new albums you should hear
🌶️ Red Fang - Arrows (stoner from the USA)
Is this a perfect record? It's not. But these guys are all about fun and headbanging. If you like fun, and if you like headbanging, come on in and hang with the fun and headbanging guys.
🌶️ Code - Flyblown Prince (progressive black from the UK)
I feel like I haven't heard this very particular style of progressive black metal since the end of Emperor and the beginning of Ihsahn. I love how poisonous aggressive it is, and still catchy as the plague.
🌶️ Boss Keloid - Family The Smiling Thrush (sludge from the UK)
I don't know what that title means. It's just as hard to predict where their songs go. Nods to the psychedelic era of yore, but this is also for fans of Baroness' more progressive leanings (which I am). And it's still very, very heavy at times.
🌶️ Fucked Up - Year of the Horse (progressive post-hardcore/punk rock from the USA)
I had missed this last week, but Year of the Horse is worth catching up to. An expansive opus smeared over four monolithic acts, meandering and spiralling. A record to drown in.
🌶️ Anti-God Hand - Wretch (prog black from Canada)
Anything can happen on this album - a debut from a band to watch for fans of progressive black metal. It can go all ways. Up, down, sidewards, Anti-God Hand is free from conventions. And those fucking vocals, oh my god.
There's more: Hannes Grossmann (progressive tech death from Germany), Flotsam & Jetsam (power/thrash from the USA), Seputus (🌶️ black/death from the USA - members of Pyrrhon), Circle of Sighs (psychedelic doom from the USA), Elderwind (atmoblack/ambient from Russia), Desaster (black/thrash from Germany), Sordide (🌶️ black from France), Friisk (atmoblack from Germany), Winter Eternal (black from Greece) and Hathener (??? from the USA - members of Krallice).
The rest is, as said, in the playlist!
New singles
There are new singles, songs and tracks out from: Darkthrone (🌶️ black/heavy/doom from Norway), Mayhem (black from Norway), King Woman (🌶️ doom/post/shoegaze from the USA), Skepticism (funeral doom from Finland), Sepultura & Devin Towsend (groove from Brazil/prog from Canada - this had been on Youtube for a while), White Ward (🌶️ post-black/experimental from Ukraine - feat. Lazare), Urne (stoner/sludge/metalcore from the USA), Till Lindemann (industrial from Germany - you know, it's Till), Cerebral Rot (death from the USA), Oxygen Destroyer (black/death/thrash from the USA), Yngwie Malmsteen (guitars from Sweden), Pentagram (thrash/heavy from Turkey), Lucifer (heavy/doom from Sweden), Xasthur (acoustic/dark folk from the USA), Diabolizer (death from Turkey), The Absence (melodeath from the USA), Kryptan (🌶️ black from Sweden - members of October Tide, ex-Katatonia, Wretched Fate) and a live track from Devin Townsend (prog from Canada).
Oh... and if you want, there's a Selena (what a story) cover from Ill Niño on which they blend their chuggachugga nu-metal with all kinds of latin styles, even reggaeton, and with all the trve power I can muster, I can't get myself to hate it. I don't hate it.
Next week
Non-metal album of the week: Wolf Alice - Blue Weekend
I’m looking forward to next week because of: Crypta (slow week? I'm hoping for surprises)
Have a great weekend! - Peter
