🌶️ To The Teeth: Darkthrone, Amenra, Between the Buried and Me, Thy Catafalque and more - but mainly Darkthrone
Two new albums you need to hear
🌶️ Darkthrone (metal from Norway)
Eternaaaaaal.... Haaaaaaillllsssss! I love this band more with every release. Of course their classic records are important, but I especially appreciate how much fun and energy there is in their later work. They've got that special balance between being young and just playing the shit they like, while also being very experienced, knowing exactly how to do it. And the riffs man. And Fenriz yelling 'Eternal Hails!'. All of it.
🌶️ Amenra (post/sludge from Belgium)
I remember walking into the first Amenra concert I went to thinking: this is not really a band for me. I walked out intensely moved, changed almost. Amenra is a live band to me and the new record doesn't do much to change my position. But this is still a very very good album that I'll invest in more than I have done with their previous records. I promise. Until I see them live again and all their albums seem a little thin in comparison.
But wait there's more: Thy Catafalque (avantgarde black from Hungary), Anti-God Hand (black from Canada), White Ward (saxophone black from Ukraine - 2 track ep), Whitered (black/death from the USA), Cerebral Rot (death from the USA), Soul Glo (hardcore from the USA), A Pregnant Light (post-black from the USA), Urne (stoner/sludge/metalcore from the UK), Hellish Form (funeral doom/sludge from the USA), Fractal Universe (tech/prog death from France), Irae (black from Portugal), The Absence (melodic death from the USA), live albums from Lacuna Coil (gothic from Italy) and Dream Theater (prog from the USA), and a box set of last years streaming live shows Enslaved (prog black/viking from Norway) did. There is more in the playlist!
New singles
There are new songs out from: Between The Buried and Me (🌶️ progressive metalcore from the USA), Hooded Menace (🌶️ death/doom from Finland), Dee Snider (heavy from the USA - featuring motherfucking Corpsegrinder), Leprous (prog from Norway), Within Temptation (symphonic/alternative from The Netherlands), Charlotte Wessels (🌶️ sympho/alternative? Hard to pin down, which is good - from the Netherlands), Enforcer (heavy/speed from Sweden), Aborted (brutal death/grind from Belgium), Cloud Rat (grind from the USA), Fawn Limbs (🌶️ noise/grind from the USA), First Fragment (tech death from Canada), Urn (black/thrash from Finland), Teeth (death/doom from the USA) and Powerwolf (power from Germany). Plus: Metallica will re-release The Black Album with a big list of artists (mostly non-metal) who cover tracks from the album. They've released a re-mastered version of 'Enter Sandman', two live songs, and a cover by Miley Cyrus and friends. I think it's all really cool.
