Welcome to the To The Teeth newsletter! Your weekly update of new heavy music. You can listen to (most) everything in the playlist on Spotify. If you like what you read, go to Patreon (receive a patch!) & Bandcamp (buy a patch!). Peppers are hot 🌶️!

New Albums

🌶️ Cannibal Corpse (Cannibal/Corpse from the USA. FFO: Cannibal Corpse)

Cannibal Corpse.

🌶️ Hexvessel (psychedelic forest doom from Finland. FFO: Oranssi Pazuzu, Darkher, The Devil’s Blood)

Kvohst and his tribe surprise again. There’s the dark foresty folk this band is good at and known for, mixed with flourishes of the black metal Kvohst was once a central figure in, then again mixed with psychedelic doom and gothic. This is a ritual. Who speaks for the wolf? Freedom!

🌶️ KEN Mode (noise from Canada. FFO: Chat Pile, Old Man Gloom, Kowloon Walled City)

I liked Entrench (2013), but kind of lost them after that. But they won me back with the live show I saw in april. Really convincing.

🌶️ Deadly Carnage (post-black from Italy. FFO: Alcest, Lantlôs, Gris)

I did put this in the playlist last week but then forgot to mention it in the newsletter. A shame, because it’s good! Ethereal post-black, glistering as it is intense. A little on the dsbm side - hence the Gris ffo - but it’s not bleak or even dark. And yet it’s not zero-gravity either. There’s a really nice balance here that I often miss with this kind of post-black.8

🌶️ Code (prog black from the UK. FFO: Arcturus, Emperor, Dødheimsgard)

Thanks to the Zes Losse Tanden discord people I caught this ep, with an exceptionally good second track. Absolute riveting The Sham Mirrors vibes. Hunting for Ceasar! Hunting for Ceasar!

There’s more: Bekor Qilish (🌶️ avantgarde from Italy), Wormhole (tech/brutal death/core from the USA), Rebaelliun (death from Brazil), Profanatica (black/death from the USA), Final Gasp (deathrock/hardcore from the USA), My Lament (doom/death from Belgium), Kings Rot (melodic black from Canada), Θλίψις (Thlipsis) (black from Greece), a split from Feral & Crawl (both death from Sweden), Farscape (thrash from Brazil) and a live ep from Cave In (prog/post-hardcore from the USA). The rest is in the playlist!

New songs

There are new songs out from: Therion (🌶️ symphonic/gothic/death from Sweden), Sulphur Aeon (blackened death from Germany), Autarkh (industrial/death from The Netherlands), Chelsea Wolfe (doom/gothic from the USA), Valdrin (melodic black from the USA), Dianne van Giersbergen (🌶️ symphonic from The Netherlands - not related to Anneke), Go Ahead and Die (thrash/death from the USA - feat. Max Cavalera), Asagraum (black from The Netherlands), Helmet (heavy/groove from the USA), Sorcerer (epic doom from Sweden), Appalooza (🌶️ stoner from France), Varg (melodic black/death from Germany), Kvelgeyst (black from Switzerland) and Axioma (🌶️ post-black from the USA). The rest is in the playlist!

Non-heavy & next week

Non-heavy album of the week: Cristina Branco (fado from Portugal)

I’m looking forward to next week because of: Wolves in the Throne Room, Blackbriar, Filth Is Eternal, Woe, Ruin Lust & Waldgeflüster.

What was your favourite? What did I miss? Let me know!
