🌶️ To The Teeth: Bruce Dickinson's first solo record in 18 years
Plus: Angmodnes, Suldusk, Messiah, Volcandra, Inter Arma, Dool & much more
Welcome to the To The Teeth newsletter! Your weekly update of new heavy music. You can listen to (most) everything in the playlist on Spotify. If you like what you read, go to Patreon (receive a patch!) & Bandcamp (buy a patch!). Peppers are hot 🌶️!
New Albums
Heavy, UK (BMG)
FFO: Iron Maiden, Dio, Judas Priest
You don’t need me to tell you anything about this guy you don’t already know. There may be better contemporary heavy metal than this album out there, but it’s Bruce man. Dude sounds like a million dollars on his first solo album in 18 years. Well, like a thousand dollars, at least.
🌶️ Angmodnes
Funeral doom, Netherlands (Tragedy Productions)
FFO: Ahab, Mournful Congregation, Esoteric
Nothing new and still so fresh. Angmodnes makes exactly the kind of morose, poignant doom I absolutely love. Perfect piano breaks, great leads and fantastically dynamic and varied vocals.
🌶️ Suldusk (atmospheric/post black/folk, Australia),
Atmospheric/post black/folk, Australia (Napalm Records)
FFO: Myrkur, Sylvaine, Darkher
Beautiful melodies, intense black metal passages. Suldusk know how to craft a dynamic album.
There’s more: Messiah (death/thrash, Switzerland), Convulsing (black/death, Australia), Volcandra (meloblack, USA), a split from Trhä & Μνήμα (atmoblack, USA & raw black/noise, Greece), a split from Anatomia & Eternal Rot (death/doom, Japan & doom/death, UK/Poland), Misotheist (black, Norway), Fathomless Ritual (tech/avant death, Canada), Haunt (heavy, USA), Celestial Sword (raw black/dungeon synth, USA) and Beenkerver (black, The Netherlands). The rest is in the playlist!
Five new songs
🌶️ Inter Arma (sludge/black/death/post, USA)
🌶️ Dool (psych/doom, The Netherlands)
🌶️ Nø Man (hardcore punk, USA)
🌶️ Author & Punisher (industrial/doom, USA - an amazing cover of one of my favourite artists. I wanted to share this last week but I forgot. Since it just landed on Bandcamp half an hour ago I think it’s still fine)
🌶️ Morvigor (melodic black, The Netherlands)
The rest is in the playlist!
Non-metal & next week
Non-metal album of the week: Amaro Freitas (jazz, Brazil)
I’m looking forward to next week because of: Judas Priest, Isenordal, Skeletal Remains & Slimelord.
What is your favourite? What did I miss? What do you think of the new singles feature? Let me know!
A great list, thanks Peter!
