New Albums
🌶️ Krallice (avantgarde black from the USA. FFO: Thantifaxath, Liturgy, Altar of Plagues)
It had been a while! Always good to hear what Krallice is up to, they’ve made some of my favourite black metal records. It seems they’re still in love with the big synths and that’s good news. Like everything they do, this is super interesting and it’s almost impossible to immediately say what to think or feel - the last song is 21 minutes, hello. You do want to listen it through though, because it all ends in a stunning way.
🌶️ Oculi Melancholiarum (post-black from Mexico. FFO: Sadness, Lustre, Unreqvited)
Speaking of prolific. Another week, another recommendation for a new Victoria Carmilla Hazemaze release. Oculi Melancholiarum is one of her many projects, but also one of the best. Layers of glistening black metal, fleeting and etherial.
🌶️ Carathis (black from Austria/Sweden. FFO: Old Nick, Spider God, Gudsforladt)
Yeah, sorry, speaking of prolific. I’ve only heard about this project in february, and already there’s a new ep from Erech Leleth’s Carathis. Again: much fun, much catchy, much Leleth.
🌶️ Dave Lombardo (Dave Lombardo from Cuba/USA. FFO: Dave Lombardo)
Slayer. Testament. Suicidal Tendencies. Fantomas. Grip Inc. Dead Cross. Misfits. Mr Bungle. Legendary Cuban drummer Dave Lombardo is the man, and now here is his first solo project. Of course it’s totally bonkers.
🌶️ Enforcer (heavy/speed from Sweden. FFO: Iron Maiden, Skull Fist, Cauldron)
Yeah that title is about right. It’s nostalgic alright, this time machine from Sweden. But by now you know I’m a sucker for it when it’s well done, and this is done well.
🌶️ Kaatayra & Pessimista (atmospheric folk/black from Brazil & atmoblack from Brazil)
You might know Kaatayra from my own compilation. I love that project. It’s like he made it specifically for me: melancholic, compelling, tropical. If I wasn’t so old, I’d call it a vibe. This song, originally intended for a split with the lamented God’s Bastard (of which Drew Hayes sadly passed away), is quite heavy. In fact, it’s fucking heavy.
There’s more: Tygers of Pan Tang (heavy from the UK), Aridus (🌶️ black from the USA), Neverus (power/melodeath from The Netherlands - missed this last month), Jerome’s Dream (screamo from the USA), Jassa (🌶️ black from Russia), a split from Abyssal & Ellorsith (death/black/doom from the UK & black/death from Canada), Nightmarer (tech death from the USA), Drain (crossover/hardcore from the USA), Spinebreaker (death/hardcore from the USA - w/ members of Gulch), Herod (progressive sludge from Switzerland), Nadir (black from Switzerland), Burning Witches (heavy/power from Switzerland), Concilium (black from Portugal) and a live thing from Circle of Sighs (prog/psych doom/electronic from the USA). The rest is in the playlist!
New songs
There are new songs out from: Kostnatění (🌶️ black/folk from the USA), Blackbraid (atmoblack from the USA), Moonlight Sorcery (🌶️ melodic black from Finland), Inhuman Nature (🌶️ thrash/hardcore crossover from the UK), Vengeful Spectre (black/folk from China), Boris & Uniform (eeh from Japan and hardcore from the USA), Ruïm (black from Norway - w/ ex-member of Mayhem, Aura Noir), Shadows (🌶️ heavy from Chile), Mesarthim (atmoblack/trance from Australia) and Erdve (sludge from Lithuania). The rest is in the playlist!
Non-heavy & next week
Non-heavy album of the week: Avishai Cohen & Abraham Rodriguez (jazz/latin from Israel/USA)
I’m looking forward to next week because of: Ascended Dead, Cattle Decapitation & Esoctrilihum.
What was your favourite? What did I miss? Let me know!
Benieuwd naar de nieuwe Krallice! Even met aandacht voor zitten.
