New Albums
🌶️ Al Namrood
Black/folk, Saudi Arabia (Shaytan Productions)
FFO: Melechesh, Seeds of Iblis, Akvan
It’s a few years ago, but I’ll always remember the face-to-face interview (in Dutch) I had with frontman Mephisto - the only one they ever did. It took me months to get them to trust me enough and to set this up at a place where we could meet safely. We’re still in contact on and off, he’s a great guy trapped in a terrible place. It’s absolutely insane, brave and awe-inspiring the risk they’re taking for this, and if that’s not enough to take the time to listen to their new album, I can tell you it’s also really good.
🌶️ Ulcerate
Avantgarde/tech death, New Zealand (Debemur Morti)
FFO: Gorguts, Dodecahedron, Portal
Not for the fait of hearted. Ulcerate is known to twist brains with their sprawling, intense technical death metal. They’ve been churning out records every three or four years or so, and this is album number seven. As usual it’s recorded by their own drummer, and this time the mastering was done by Cult of Luna’s Magnus Lindberg. They gave this complex sound great production: room to breathe, dynamic and still suffocatingly dense.
🌶️ Julie Christmas
Post-metal/noise/hardcore, USA (Red Creek)
FFO: Old Man Gloom, Helms Alee, Kowloon Walled City
Such a festive name, such disturbing music.
There’s more: Rezn (psych doom/stoner, USA), Solar Temple & Dead Neanderthals (🌶️ experimental doom, The Netherlands), Lucifer’s Hammer (🌶️ heavy, Chile), Sibiir (post-metal/hardcore, Norway), Dysrhythmia (prog math, USA - w/ members of Krallice, Gorguts), Crypt Sermon (epic doom, USA), Kerasfóra (🌶️ atmoblack, Chile), Fellwarden (atmoblack, UK), Perchta (black/folk, Austria), Cowardice (sludge/doom, USA), Vendel (epic/heavy doom, Russia), Apes (black/grind, Canada), Balwezo Westijiz (black, Sweden), Angel Sword (heavy, Finland), and Fugitive Wizard (raw black/ambient, USA). The rest is in the playlist!
Six new songs
🌶️ Sólstafir (viking/black/post-metal, Iceland)
🌶️ The Black Dahlia Murder (melodeath, USA)
🌶️ Charlotte Wessels (symphonic, The Netherlands)
🌶️ Meer (symphonic prog, Norway)
🌶️ Winterfylleth (black, UK)
🌶️ Nails (grind/powerviolence, USA)
The rest is in the playlist!
